Megaman at The Groundhouse
Megaman luminaires and lamps have been chosen to provide the illumination for a unique eco-design project in Brittany. The Ground House has been selected as one of Kevin Mcloud's top five projects and has appeared on the new series of Channel 4's Grand Designs. Originally the idea of climate change consultant Daren Hoawarth and his girlfriend Adi Nortje, the aim was to create an aesthetically pleasing and flexible space that, at the same time, delivers from an ecological point of view. This unique three bedroom property is built on over 1000 car tyres rammed with earth and insulated with recycled glass and plastic and it needs just one small wood-burning stove to keep it warm.
Lighting design for The Groundhouse was carried out by Luminair who used their own "Eco" range of sustainable hardwood LEDs products throughout the building. In addition to the company's own products, Luminair also specified Megaman lamps and fittings to complete a uniform eco theme.
Megaman's energy saving AR111 11W and 13W lamps with a narrow beam reflector have been employed throughout the facility, along with a wide range of the company's luminaires. The AR111 is ideal for precise illumination and has all the benefits of halogen without the heat output and also with a potential energy saving of up to 80%. Perfect for a wide range of luminaires, these lamps have been used with Megaman's Conxento surface mounted downlighters in the bedrooms, bathroom and utility area. The lamps are available in either cool white or warm colour temperature to complement each of the room settings.
Other spotlights used for the project include Megaman's Prima which utilise AR111 lamps and Palmlite luminaires using the GX53 lamps. Fozz Lighting's Nevada spotlights in black finish also incorporate Megaman's GX53 lamps and have been used on the exterior.
Following completion of the project, Daren commented "The incorporation of Luminair and Megaman lighting into The Groundhouse has enabled us to achieve a key design objective providing ultra low energy ecological lighting to a "design down" lighting plan. Our objective needed to ensure we used minimum energy with green lighting products. The Luminair bespoke LED lighting is stunning and was simply the most beautiful and eco-friendly lighting we have seen. Luminair also acted as lighting consultants on the project and introduced us to Megaman. We were impressed by both the company products and company ethos which include no liquid mercury to production line energy efficiency. Megaman was an obvious choice for us with great lighting which is also excellent value for money."
