WEEELite

The introduction of the UK WEEE legislation in January 2007 placed the obligation on producers of electrical and electronic items in the UK to ensure environmentally sound disposal of their items when they become waste. In response to this, Megaman^® UK Ltd joined forces with leading WEEE recycler Weeeco to provide outstanding environmental performance and cost effective Weee compliance in the UK. The result is Weeelite, a new producer compliance scheme offering sustainable processes at a sensible price and designed to offer real choice in the market.

Weeelite has been successful in securing a 3 year Government Licence to operate a producer compliance scheme, one of only 42 licences issued since the introduction of the UK WEEE regulations.

Weeelite will provide producers with the opportunity to join a scheme that demonstrates Environmental sustainability, corporate social responsibility and cost effectiveness for both producers and end users.

The scheme has been successful in attracting a broad range of producers from the electronics industry with significant market share in light equipment and refrigeration. In 2009 it will be responsible for diverting 1 million light bulbs, 45 thousand fridges and a further 1000 tonnes of other electrical items from land fill.
